December 10, 200421 yr As a compromise between me wanting a large sim room and my wife rooting for a hometheater room, i came up with a plan where we build both next to each other..Then i started wondering how about mounting the center projector to ceiling on rails and repositioning into each room depending on which room we use. For this, projector needs to be leaniarly repositioned by about 8-9 feet (2.5-3.0 meters) into the adjascent room, and then turned (yaw) by 90 degrees as the projection walls are at that angle to each other. Then it needs to be locked firmly into the position without allowing any vibrations. Wondering anyone has this kind of setup? Any ideas, comments?thankssri
December 10, 200421 yr Hi,These are some rough ideas that sprang to mind...For rotational positioning how about using a physical barrier of some sort / material . a piece of metal, wood, etc, of your choosing. Mount these to sometng else with bolts inserted in slotted holes for fine positiong and for readjustment when necessary. To lock it into position have a look at your handheld circular saw. They use a cam lever to lock it into the desired cutting depth. May be a simple solution if you find a broken one. simply remove that piece and incorporate it.Good luck,Tom
December 10, 200421 yr I would use an old 35 mm Motion Pictures Camera Hydro Head. If you have an TV or Film company close to you they may give you one for free to you, since older heads are not anymore used and serve as mostly as decoration. But they are robust and very steady, since such cameras weights for about 40 Lbs .I would put it on a small track using aluminium tubes ontop of which I would build a little dolly. You may find some inspiration also looking at remote dollies used for action films or sport live shows.GreetingsRoger
December 10, 200421 yr You could get a ceiling mount for your projector and maybe use some rails of the type that can be bought for mounting sliding cupboard/wardrobe doors.Thats what I was gonna do, but then I haven't got around to that side of things yet.
December 10, 200421 yr Thanks to all.>You could get a ceiling mount for your projector and maybe>use some rails of the type that can be bought for mounting>sliding cupboard/wardrobe doors. That's what I started thinking first. I found a couple of low profile (short height) universal projector mounts. I plan to check about those cupboard slides though (what about computer rackmount slides?). Not sure whether they'll be available in that length. Buiding some kind of dolly on rails might give the stability and let attach the base of the mount firmly on the rails. May use motor to move the dolly and control them through the same IOCards or Fsbus controller?-srini
