How do I?

Featured Replies

I am familiar with how to take pictures and attach them to the files I want to send over the internet. The problem that I am having is keeping them small enough to post here. How does one stay within the 125 kb limit when sending an attachment? I have a couple of pictures I would like to post for comment. Please help with any instructions or ways of doing this. Milt

I can host them on my site for a while if you want, but to answer your question:Compression, and resizing.First, resize your image to a size so you can still see enough detail and can make up what's on it.Then compres using JPEG or similar, using a level not too high (8 is a good level, some detail loss, but not much)If you want to show some details, take another picture, a close up of it...BTW: are you the same mondo as on DS? If so, I hope it are pictures of your DS panels :)

Yes, I am that person. I am just beginning to build my sim. I feel the best way to know how I am doing is to post some photos and get some feedback. The smallest I have been able to make my pictures is 425 kb, so help is needed. I suppose I could build a website, but that is even more challenging than taking pictures. How does one change the compression factor? I was under the impression that the compression software (win-zip) did all of that on its own. Milt

:(don't confuse winzip compression with JPEG compression... JPEG loses data, winzip doesn't.In what program are you editing? Paint can't do this :(if you want me to resize them, mail them to [email protected] (attachments up to 10Mb :) ), I'll resize them (max 125Kb, right?) and send them back. I use photoshop for that, but that's an exspensive program... there sure are other programs that can get the same job done as well!greets, Toine

They may even get bigger. As Toine already said, resize the pics. Best is 800x600 and less. Also be sure to set the compression level / quality setting to 75% or less. There are tons of programs out there that can do this. Eg, you could check out The GIMP:http://www.gimp.org/win32/Its a photoshop like program, but its totally free.Digital cameras don't compress the pictures much, esp. at the highest quality setting. Might be worth check the picture-file-sizes when turning quality and picture size/resolution down in the camera setup.Manuel

Ok guys, here we go. I downloaded GIMP and resized my picture of the knobs that I have molded so far. Be aware that these knobs are not original to the 747. They are just some that I felt would look good. Also, see the lower right hand corner for my dual concentric knobs and rotary. Any comments, pro or con, are welcome. Again, I did these myself, so be kind. Milt

After I made the last post, I went back in to check and see what transpired. IT WORKED!!! This is what an excellent forum is all about....people helping people to understand how to do a specific task. Thank you very much for your help. Milt

Talkin 'bout this issue:If you got Office 2003 .. you should check out MS Picture Manager. As far as I know (and there might well be freeware alternatives) this tool is GREAT !It can do all you need and not a thing more.Rotate images, trim images, remove red eyes, resize images, rename all selected images (super handy!!), etc etcOnly thing .. haven't found how to get a slide-show running yet.But if you got Office 2003 you SHOULD seriously concider using this program if you are not already.

I'd rather just stick to the "FS" program from MS, the rest I rather avoid as much as possible :)//T
