Annoying Problem connecting a throttle to the PC

Featured Replies

Hi all,I've built my home made throttle (for my FS2004 flights) and i made it with a gamerport output (15 pins). In my computer i'm using windows XP but i have no gamerport input (my sound card in o/b and no gameport has come with the computer), i have a Gameport to USB adaptor from my SideWinder Precision Pro joystick so i connected the throttle to USB using the adaptor.i went to Control Panel->Game Controllers and clicked Add, selected Custom and selected: 2 axes and 0 buttons, named it throttle and clicked OKwhen i selected 'throttle' to Add it i get a msg:"Your Gameport or Gameport drivers are not properly configured. Please Consult the Device Manager"why???is it because of the Gameport to USB adaptor? Thanks,La bla bla

I had the same problem when trying to re-use my Sidewinder 3D Pro (gameport) with a "to USB" convertor plug. No luck.

Does it show up ok in windows control panel's Gaming device section?Did you calibrate it?//T

Windows XP should recognize the Gameport-USB adapter as a USB device. If you try to configure the throttle as a gameport device, XP will tell you it's not working - because it's not being connected to the PC as a gameport device, it's being connected as a USB one.Richard

Does the usb dongle do autocalibration?//T

If the adapter's working right, then in Game Controllers it should show up, or once you're in MSFS you can calibrate it there. One thing to remember - with most of these adapters, it's important to connect the adapter to the USB port and let XP do it's "Found new hardware" thing BEFORE you connect the gameport device to the USB adapter.Richard
