August 26, 200520 yr I'd like to make a set of seat rails for a recently acquired 727 crew seat. This is one of the original seats from the mid 60s with straight rails. To anyone who has OEM rails of this style or has successfully fabricated their own, I'd like to find out their dimensions: length, width at base, height and width of I-beam and size and number of holes to drill.I'm going to use aluminum extrusions and I'd like to find out these dimensions so I don't have to guess. Many thanks.Dennis
August 28, 200520 yr Hi Dennis, have a look at my website!I have two seats of an old 727, and gave an order to a company to produce the rails for me! simply look at all information for simproject 1 on our site!! i have some pictures of the rails on the site!best is, to measure all the clamps etc. underneath your seat, and to make the holes for seat-lock for your convenience and for use in YOUR cockput setup. i did the same. it's not for sure, that your seat is the same like mine.if you need more info, do not hesitate to ask ...Best from ViennaHans G. August 29, 200520 yr Vielen dank, Hans.I found the photos of the 727 seats, including the technical closeups, but I couldn't find pics of the seat rails themselves. Where may they be found on your excellent site?We have different seats as mine is an earlier model from Weber Aircraft, manufactured in the U.S. in 1966, and used in either a 707 or 727. It's very similar, but the dimensions may be different. What is the name of the company that manufactured your rails? Do they have a website?I'm very grateful to you and others who have documented their projects with such detail and clarity.Dennis MooreChicago

August 29, 200520 yr Hans:Now that I've located your photos and information, a couple of questions. You indicate that the rails have an overall length of 1.4 meters or about 55 inches and that they are split in two parts. Therefore, each rail section would be 70 cm or 27.5 inches, which would seem an appropriate length. Based on the photo with the can of spray paint, it doesn't appear that the sections could be longer than 80 cm.Using a grid in Photoshop to measure your main overhead view, I've estimated the other dimensions to be:I-beam width: .6 inch or 1.5 cmEntire rail width: 2.1 inches or just over 5 cmSpacing between holes on segments used with the seat lock: approx. 1 cmDo these figures come close to the ones you used to order yours? I'll certainly make my own measurements from the seat I'm fitting, but I wanted to use these as a rough guide.Again, many thanks for all the valuable information!Tschuss,Dennis
August 29, 200520 yr Hi Dennis,I think we should switch to personal mail!I'm not sure if everyone out there is interested in our details! Please mail me at below e-mail - thanks!Best from ViennaHans G. August 30, 200520 yr That's fine, Hans. Will do.I thought there might be others who could benefit from this information since seat rails are scarce.Dennis
August 30, 200520 yr >Hi Dennis,>>I think we should switch to personal mail!>I'm not sure if everyone out there is interested in our>details! It doesnt really matter, thanks to the threaded forum - who is interested in seat rails, can read this thread, and others can just ignore it.. So no need to do that "to not disturb others" - it does not matter at all :)//Tuomas
