REDEC to FSBUS problems

Featured Replies

Hey pplz I have some rotary encoders that i bought ages ago, and they are 2bit quadrature encoders. I have built a REDEC circuit, but am having difficulty getting it to work with FSBUS. What kind of encoder should i select in FSBUS? I have tried it, but other values change as well, like i have the rotary set to change the ADF, but other things like Comm2, nav2, xponder change too. Can someone out please help me?RegardsBrendan

You very likely have the same rotary id configured for many things?//Tuomas

Hi BrendonHave you tried connecting the rotary direct to FSKEY and calling it a Knitter or Alps....I have found two rotaries that work fine like this without REDEC, for OBS, Freq's etc. Only occasion I use REDEC is for a function that uses one key to Increase and another to Decrease (for example).Try it...you might be lucky too!

Thanks for the replies.I have tried hooking it straight up to fskey, but no luck. I also tried what tuomas said, but no luck there either. My diagram of REDEC has just 2 cmos4011 ic's, which didnt work in this config (this was my initial problem that i described). I then added a cmos4066 to the circuit, and had some success. Unfortunately i could only turn the encoder at slow speed, any thing fast and it would miss and just go up one down one and so on.I also tried a suggestion on this page:http://wiki.varxec.net/Rotary_encoderIt also worked, but only at low speeds. My goal is to make an MCP. Looks like i might have to source some other encoders that work. Being in Australia, does anyone know where i could get some? Has anyone ordered from FDS to Aust, and what was their postage costs like?RegardsBrendan

Hi BrendonDidn't realise you were in OZ.....Altronics have a very nice little rotary that costs about AUS$4.50 and connects straight into FSKEY...ideal for your MCP....you can order online and buy as little as one at a time. See here:http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=item&id=S3350Only trouble is they don't come with mounting nuts but with a bit of chasing around I'm sure you will find something.
