dual concentric rotary encoder

Featured Replies

Hi guysI made some dual rotaries based on the 12 steps rotary switches (according to the tutorial on opencockpits.com). Recently I acquired a bunch of rotary encoders (24 steps) that can be wired directly to fskey. Now I want to make dual rotaries based on these rotary encoders.I remember that I have seen pics that used 2 gears. Both encoders were beside eachother (and not behind eachother).Unfortunatly I cannot remember were I saw this.Does anybody has a link or a picture?thanksNorberthttp://home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.bosch/

Norbert,I recall seeing a dual setup using gears on the flightsim cockpit forum perhaps 2 years ago. I think it was posted by "Capt. Slarty"Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.com

That's exactly what I want to do- The rotarys I bought were somewhere around $1.50. I'll check my reciepts if anybody is interested. They are grey encoders with a pushbutton- I actually wrote a completely custom program to interface the encoders with a Velleman USB interface kit for testing, and successfully have the encoder tuning radios in FS.I would VERY MUCH like to build these dual-rotarys since I also found dual-rotary knobs for $1 each (again I'll post where if anybody is interested). So, where did you find the gears? Any chance you could post some detailed info on these bad boys. AWESOME job BTW.

The Pics I showed you are from a friend of mine. I redesigned his work a bit to fit in my panels.I will use gears from Conrad (www.conrad.nl, they have websites in several european countries I believe). The gears on the pics are also from Conrad. Then you will need an axis-extender (do not know the real english word) It connects a 4 mm rod (for the smaller knob) to the first rotary with its 6 mm axis.Secondly you will need something in the hole in your frontpanel to align the 6 mm outer axis. (see artikel number 183797 on www.conrad.nl)Mail me if you want the artikelnumbers of the gears I will use.RegardsNorberthttp://home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.bosch

Yes, please do post where you got the knobs!!ThanksGus
