November 24, 200520 yr Hello.A little question about elevator trim applying elevator trim. I am building a "non specific type" cockpit. Large turboprops and the CRJ, are my favourites. But I can
November 25, 200520 yr Hi,I can't speak even remotely for larger planes, but if it helps at all...In the Piper Warrior II I fly, some of the planes have an electric trim on the yoke, just like those planes. There is still a manual trim wheel- It seems that when you press the trim switch up or down, you hear a "click" and a motor sound and the trim wheel starts turning. That would tell me there is some type of clutch device that activates when you press the trim.If you don't see any trim wheel in those planes, then the only trim function is probably the trim switch on the yoke. That definately makes it easier for you! In my cockpit, I am going to build the trim wheel and skip the yoke switches, since I don't use them anyway. I find I like the manual trim wheel.
November 25, 200520 yr Yeah, I was going to say that if you have a yoke elevator trim, it's all you need anyway - unless you have specific reasons to need a wheel (like, doing a PPL on a Cessna etc that has no electric trim switch on the yoke/stick)The yoke trim is nice and convenient, and that'd be the only one you probably would use in a real plane anyway. Sims do not always need all the redundancy, unless you want to especially practice emergency drills. Building those things "just in case" is a lot of extra work and one needs to consider that versus the amount of emergency training one intends to do.. :)//Tuomas
