September 27, 200619 yr Hi all,I'm interested in doing either or both of the following:Using 2 DLP projectors with MSFS 2004 (and eventually X), and/or project from DLP to a curved screen.Questions that pop into my mind: 1 - Can a DLP projector focus properly onto a curved screen? 2 - Can MSFS create two fullscreen (clean) displays that can be divided between 2 projection units?Would love to hear from anyone who has worked on either of these issues. Thanks!SMS
September 27, 200619 yr 1 No experience with that2. Yes No problem. Use either 2 videocards or something like the matrox external hardware device called dualhead2go (look at the matrox site for further info).regardsNorberthttp://home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.bosch/
September 28, 200619 yr Regarding curved screen and maintaining image to be focused: Yes you can, of course depending on the quality of the projector. As an example; high end projectors that allow you to project at a angle have a wide angle of focus range.
September 29, 200619 yr I have run a test on a DLP projector, and have discovered that yes, focus on an uneven or a surface that varies in distance from the lens, will stay in surprising focus. I would not anticipate that a curved screen would present a problem. That is great news...d
October 5, 200619 yr I can confirm that. I have a ceiling mounted projector, and when I switch it on before lowering the screen, the image is projected on the wall (1 meter behind screen), and it is focused!I think that with projectors focusing does not mean any distance adjustment like in a camera.Regards,Hans
October 5, 200619 yr I think projectors have come a long way. I recall my NEC 1200 (1985 vintage), 12' distance, 7' flat wide screen..... the edges were out of focus. They're much more flexible now.
October 5, 200619 yr Projectors do have a relation between focus and distance...Otherwise, there would be no need for focusing :)But what you say is correct tough, the lenses are becoming so good that you can differ the distance a bit without losing too much focus.
October 24, 200619 yr Hi can you give me a clue what projectors you are using an how many degrees you screens are curved ?I currently use 2 Barco graphics 701s. They are large CRT's with "scheimpflug" lesens special for Curved screen projection. The CRT pictures are exelent for outsideviews, but if i could save some space with smaler projectors that would be a benefit.RegardsGery
October 24, 200619 yr Can someone explain how to display on just two screens? Maybe I'm misreading the original post, but I think he was asking if FS could be displayed on two screens. To me that means two from views split in two. As far as I know, in FS you only get front, front right and left. That would be three views. If using just two projector, you could only see the front and either front left or front right.I'm considering a similar setup so I would be interested if you can indeed split the front view into two views.SD
October 24, 200619 yr one, two or tree displays does not make a difference in fs (2004 and X).You can either stretch one outside view window to two screens or make 2 windows and display one on each screen.Fs works with directx, and directx sees each graphic card as a device. It depends on the graphic cards ability to create one virtual screen with two dvi/vga output's. I have never seen a graphic card with more out puts. (exept with tripple2go)The limitation is that you cannot create a window that is larger than the max screen resolution of the "device". Which in my case is 2 screens of 1024X768....correct me if im wrong.RegardsGery
October 24, 200619 yr I can't think how you can do it with two projectors. Have to have a center projector, no doubt about that....I'm using a curved screen, 155 degrees, 9 feet from center pedestal, designed for three projectors.Regarding what projector I'm using.... it's a NEC, can't think of the model number right now.... since it's packed away :( But if you go to their site.... lot's of information. There are other brands that I'm sure are as good.
October 24, 200619 yr I guess it can be done. I just don't understand how you would do it.The front view in FS is centered on the screen, meaning the edges of view are left and right, at the monitors edges. In a two monitor/projector setup, how would you manage to get the left view to show its right edge in the center and the right view to show its left edge in the center? You could use the front left and front right views, but then you would be missing the front center view.I understand if you only want to see the FS front center and front left or front center and front right view. I'm lost as to how you would split the front center view into two parts.Regards,SD
October 25, 200619 yr In the view setup screen, you can adjust the size of the different views. Although the "right front" view defaults as being from 22.5' rt of center to 67.5' rt of center, you can change that to 0' to 45' if you choose.Richard
October 25, 200619 yr Sorry Richard.... that won't work.... believe me. This is not something new, it's been discussed and attempted many times by many :-roll Unless there is something new in FSX that will change this.
October 25, 200619 yr Actually ATI makes a quad view card FireMV 2400. Colorgraphic has the multihead Xentera series with 4 or 8 head capacity. The Nvidia Quadro NVS 400 has 4 heads as does the Matrox G200 MMS. Of course none of these would be considered inexpensive.http://www.multiplemonitors.org has a lot of info
