October 9, 200619 yr I am building rudder pedals and need ideas on how to make the brakes feel realistic. I would like a hydraulic cylinder, but don't know what type to buy. also, what is the best way to have resistance in the rudder pedals?
October 10, 200619 yr A relatively easy way to get a heavy-duty set of pedals with hydraulic damping is to visit a sports equipment store that sells exercise equipment. What you're looking for is a small "stair climbing" exercise machine. It's basically a pair of mechanically linked pedals that is strong enough to support a person's weight. The damper is built in. Prices ranges from $40 to somewhat over $100.You will need to make a support that holds the pedals at an angle so they are in a suitable position when you are seated. You must also add a position sensor like a potentiometer so the pedal position can be reported to your computer. For cheap electronics you can used a hacked joystick or gamepad. For a little more money you can buy some excellent electronics from Beta Innovations.Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.comwww.mikesflightdeckbooks.com
