Slider Pots and Other Potentiometers

Featured Replies

I am finalizing my simulator for a Cessna 172. I am now building the throttle and mixture controls. I will buy the real controls and will use slider pots and USB SIM-Boards from a company called Flightdecktechnology (http://www.flightdecktechnology.com). Can someone please tell me what type of wires I must use to connect the pots to the PCB? I will go to Fry's this weekend and will get the wiring and crimping tool there. I'm just not sure of what to look for. I suppose that I will have to get wires in at least three colors since posts usually have three connectors (high, wiper, and low). Does this wiring comes in different gauge? Resistance value? Amparage limit? The slider pot will probably be a 10K ohm.Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!Gianluca

Well...colors usually don't have a specific meaning except for the section of the cable. The section of the cable is proportional to the current that will flow through the wire.Going into specific, in your case since current that will flow through your pots is small (maybe some milliamps, probably hundreds of microamps) you don't need a special cable.I simply used a LAN cable where I took off all the wires (8 wires+shield with different color each one), trying to keep them as short as possible to prevent possible "electric noise" that could affect the stability of the signal going to the board.Regards,Bob
