August 4, 200718 yr Having used several flight training devices that utilize multiple touchscreen monitors to display cockpit panels, I was wondering if one could obtain several touchscreens, could they be interfaced into MSFS?I plan on building a flight sim with a projection visual system eventually. However I don't like the idea of locking my self into one aircraft in terms of the cockpit. It seems that the array of touchscreen monitors is the ideal way to be able to fly any aircraft in the sim. Has anybody done this before in a home sim? I know that right now it would be terribly expensive, but with the recent Microsoft Surface computing anouncement I think touchscreens will be come more and more common, and in turn, less expensive.I have used a system that had 6 touchscreens for the cockpit and a 3 projector visual system. It was really great and really did not take up a lot of space. It could easily fit in a 12x10 room. Here is a photo of what I'm talking about. minus the visualshttp://www.mechtronix.ca/en/aviation/av_gallery_29
August 8, 200718 yr HiYou won't have to interface into MSFS. You will just need a touchscreen driver as per normal touch screen to get the screens up and running in Windows (if screens are different then a driver for each will be needed). Then you just undock panels from main FS screen and move them to your other touch screens (have to be in Window mode though). That's all that should be necessary to get it working. I have a separate touchscreen and an FMC can be undocked to it and it works fine. I use it for SB3 and IVAO user interface...in the case of the latter it has LSK's that can be just touched to operate.Hope this helps
August 15, 200718 yr I have a layman's question regarding the use of touchscreens. Does the matrix on the screen itself need to be pre-programmed ? i.e. Do the locations of the buttons, switches, etc on the undocked panel have to be preset on the touchscreen or does it work automatically somehow ?I may have not done the best job phrasing this question. If there is any confusion I will resubmit it with more clarity on my part.Tom Peterson
August 15, 200718 yr Hi TomIn short the answer is no. Once the touchscreen driver is loaded your finger becomes just like clicking the mouse pointer...so no programming of locations etc is necessary.
