New gauge

Featured Replies

I just posted a new stand alone gauge on my website. It is a stand alone directional gyro. Please give it a test drive and tell me your thoughts. I would like to develop more if it is well received. It is similar to the gauge in the Jayco GAuges package but much smoother and has some nice features like frameless operation and window position and size memory. It is on the software page at the bottom. Please post to the forum as well, I would like to chat sometime. For those that have downloaded my EFS50 package, I will be releasing a new version that does not eat up 100% of the CPU so it is much smoother. I will advise when it is complete.Regards,Jasonwww.FlightDeckSoft.com

Hi Jason,I see that you used bitmap textures for this gauge eheh you save a lot of programming and impact on the CPU.Keep up the good work !Regards,Bob

Bob,I have not found a difference on CPU loading whether I use textures or not. The difference was that when you let the program run without and time constraints, you end up with it running at 1000 hz or so. That is what eats up CPU, constant processing. I just added a 1-2 millisecond delay at the end of the drawing loops, and CPU load goes from 100% to 0-1%. This works on vector and texture applications. I will be releasing a new version of the EFS50 package that will have this fix in it.Regards,JasonWWW.FlightDeckSoft.com

Actually a 1 msec of delay is enough to put CPU load nearly to 0 %.You could gain a bit more of smoothness if this delay is "called" every 3 of 4 drawing cycles.Regards,Bob

Hello JasonI simply love you EFS50 package. It runs perfectly on my main display. Unfortunantly I purchased some USB LCD displays for my instruments but find that they do not support OpenGL. You EADI works but you EHSI does not. It looks like I will have to develop my own gauges to run with DirectX. As a newbe to this but an old hand at programming, I was just wondering if you could offer me some advice on how it is done. Tutorials, WEB sites, software etc. Some thing to get me started.RegardsMike

Mike,Strange that only the EADI works, what is happening when you try to run the EHSI?A good site to begin learning openGL is nehe.gamedev.net. This is a great place to learn and understand many useful techniques for openGL programming. They have an extensive code base in many programming languages. I don't really know anything about DirectX, so I can't help you there.Regards,Jasonwww.flightdecksoft.com

Hi JasonThanks for the reply. The EHSI window contents does not refresh or update. When running on main display it works fine, then you drag the window to the USB display the window is shown but the graphics are draging. To explain further, if you are moving the EHSI around your display with your mouse and keep the mouse key depressed; the graphics do not refresh. Once you release the mouse key it should then update; but, on my USB display it does not update.I must say that your software is not the problem. I have tried several other OpenGL programs such as Project Magenta and they have the same problem. The problem is my USB display drivers do not support OpenGL.The fact that your EADI works, I can only guess that it does not use all the same OpenGL functions that the EHSI uses. But then I am no expert, it is just a guess!Thank againMike

Mike,Ok, still strange. So the EADI works on your USB display and the EHSI does not. It would be nice if you could use both on your displays. I will take a look at the differences between the EADI and EHSI and see if I can find anything that could explain this. I have also been looking at small LCD displays that I can run this software on for a King Air cockpit. I have been looking at AvionicsLCD.com They have a lot of VGA screens that are perfect for this, a bit on the pricey side though. Please send me your email address so that I can send you some test versions of the EHSI if I find something.Thanks,Jasonwww.flightdecksoft.com
