August 29, 200223 yr Some may be wondering if the new Scenery/Terrain SDK may mean a new Landclass Assistant. The short answer is no. The landclass related information brought forth in the new Terrain SDK was already discovered over the past year by a great group of dedicated simmers....no new tricks are shared by Microsoft. There is a new resample tool, which can now resample a landclass.raw file straight to a bgl. But the end result is exactly the same as a bgl created through my landclass.bat file used with the FS2000 Terrain SDK.There does seem to be a final listing of landclass types. I will look it over, and incorporate any changes into my upcoming next release of Landclass Assistant. And I may include an option for writing an .inf for both the FS2000 and FS2002 SDK's. Yet given the 9 meg footprint of the latest SDK, I'll probably urge my users to keep using the FS2000 Terrain tools if they don't have the bandwidth to support such a large download. Please note that my post only concerns my evaluation of Landclass updates...it's not a comment on any photoreal or mesh info shared in the new SDK. Also note that in spite of the new SDK, Landclass updates still must fill an LOD 5 grid, and still can have a resolution no lower than 1.5 sq. km. Regards,John--Author, Landclass Assistant
August 29, 200223 yr Author Thanks for that explanation, John, and keep up your excellent work.Quick question for any landclass people reading this - has anyone produced a landclass file for Long Island, New York? My home (Bayville, on the North Shore) looks like a swamp right now. Actually, that's not far off, but it should have the odd house too!Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
