Rudder Spikles - Please Help !

Recommended Posts

I have started to experience problems with "Rudder Spikes".I use CH Pro pedals (USB) and find that the rudder now has a mind of its own.To confirm this phenomenon, I cleared all weather (thinking it was gusts) but to no avail.I noticed a checkbox in FSUIPC (I'm using version 2.89) called "eliminate rudder spikes" but this did not work either.Furthermore, when looking at the Joystick Tab on FSUIPC I note that the rudder values are continuously changing (jumping)I have tried deleting FS2002.cfg and allowing system to rebuild it.Has anyone else experienced this problem and can anyone shed light on its cause (and hopefully its solution)?

I think I may have solved my own problem.A while ago I tried my pedals without the centralising springs (didn't care for it much and quickly returned to intended mode!). Obviously this required some dis-assembly and re-assembly of the unit. I think I may have disturbed one or more of the connections on the rudder potentiometer. This evening I went through the same exercise but with greater care and caution. I ensured the rudder potentiometer connections were sound and ensured that the wires to the brakes were not obstructing anything. The stability of rudder potentiometer can be checked using the windows "gaming options" utility (found in control panel). Before the re-seating the red slider bar was jumping erratically upon pedal movement, but this became smooth after the re-seating.I hope this helps anyone else having similar problems.
