Every rank has an associated hourly wage; you will be paid for every minute from engine startup to engine shutdown. You can also earn bonuses, e.g. for special deliveries that have to be done very fast, but you can also receive penalties for things like improper aircraft handling (including burning too much fuel) or improper flight planning (wrong flight plan or starting with full fuel when you only need half a tank). The hours you fly will be recorded, and will help you getting a higher rank.
