March 23, 200323 yr The Saturn rocket carrying the SkyLab II crew lifted off from SimNASA Launch Pad 39B with an unparalleled level of professionalism, accuracy, and dedication. The pre-launch countdown and related activities ran smoothly thanks to Flight Director Alex Schlesinger and Jeff Parker, who stepped in later to assist.The Virtual United States Coast Guard (vUSCG) also assisted with the launch activities with various assets. A Falcon (HH-25A) out of Miami, a Dalphin (HH-65) out of Miami, and two Cutters (The Kingfisher out of Mayport, as well as the The Gallatin from Charlston) were on station in case of emergency.SkyLab II Commander Brad Hodges had a brief moment to speak to the press after liftoff. "Things are looking good, we have a smooth ride. All we need is one small burn and we will be in the chute," Hodges stated as he noted the mission was opening exactly as planned for docking with the already orbiting virtual space station.This begins the 30-day mission aboard the first virtual space station.
