Livewire server upgraded...

Featured Replies

Well, I finally kicked all the hosted clients off the Livewire server to another server leaving ours dedicated. CPU's have been upgraded, RAM added and the machine moved from a hub inside our swtich to directly onto the switch. The upgraded came just in time too. Since the release of FS2004 our average traffic has gone from 20-30 users on the site at any one time to well over 70!!The MP FS2002/FS2004 server and TeamSpeak servers are responding better than ever and has pilots online 24/7.It also looks like another record month for us. We've passed the 500 active* pilot count and I expect to see over 4000 flights filed this month by our pilots. :)Livewire Airlines - http://www.livewireairlines.com* We consider an active pilot to be a pilot who has filed at least one flight within the last 3 months. Applicants who have 0 hours are not considered pilots until they file their first PIREP.

It looks like a dedicated server isn't going to be enough! We are growing so quickly that discussion has just begun on adding 1 or 2 more dedicated servers and even a dedicated T1. Though this will probably double our operating costs from $3000 to $6000 a year we may have no choice. Nearly 4,400 PIREPs were filed last month and we receive between 10-30 new applications every single day. Our MP server is now the most active FS MP server on the internet and with most pilots also connected to our TeamSpeak server we are using an extraordinary amount of bandwith and server resources so expanding is our only option. Many pilots suggested making Livewire a pay service with some offering to pay as much as $30 a month but in an effort to be accessible to the entire FS community the decision was made to keep Livewire free at all costs (small pun). The next few months will be difficult as we pool our financial resources and prepare for the next major set of upgrades but we'll do whatever we have to do to keep Livewire the biggest and most popular virtual airline on the internet!Livewire Airlineshttp://www.livewireairlines.com
