June 22, 200223 yr Greetings All,For some time now I have been suspicious that my computer is not giving me all it can in FS2K2 (this is the server in my system specs). I've started snooping around in my system hardware device manager and found the peculiarity shown below. While I wish that I had four monitors, I only have the two circled in red. Does anyone know why I have the extra two monitors, and if/how I should get rid of them?
June 22, 200223 yr Hi Bruno,I can disable the two default monitors, but cannot delete them. What I'm hoping to do is figure out first why they're there, then rid my system of them. Until I can figure out what their meaning in life is (or at least how they came to be), I'm content to let them hang around a little longer.
June 22, 200223 yr I see... There is a support forum from microsoft that can be set up in Outlook Express. the account is : microsoft.comOr you can go true the web site at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....ssion_forum.aspSorry that
June 22, 200223 yr I also have this in XP pro, but I run dual monitors on a geforce 4. It shows my 2 monitors that I have installed ,and also the 2 default monitor entries. When I Disable one monitor the two default entries and the monitor that I disabled disapear. Im thinking it may have something to do with the nview software in the nvidia drivers.
June 22, 200223 yr Thanks Wallace,Sounds like we have very similar system specs (see the comments section in my profile). I also run two monitors off the Ti4600. At least I know that I'm not alone. I was starting to think my computer was just toying with me. Have you ever tried to disable one of the default monitors that are not the actual monitors you are running? I think I'll try this tonight and I'll report back my findings.
June 29, 200223 yr Hi Bruno,Please forgive my lapse, I hate people like me that ask for help and then don't follow up with what happened ;). Your link was very helpful, but I haven't found anything yet relating to the additional default monitors. I am going to do some flying right now with the default monitors disabled. I'll let you know what happens.
June 29, 200223 yr Final report - disabling default monitors has no ill effect on computer performance. Can't really say that I noticed any difference within FS2K2.
June 29, 200223 yr I'm back...Figured out what the default monitors are there for. When I disabled them, the energy conserving function never kicks in, the screen saver just runs and runs. I have re-enabled and presume (hope) that energy saving function is restored. I suspect that this is a quirk unique to running two monitors off a single video card. Live and learn.
