June 22, 200223 yr Hi!Has anyone any experience of using RAID-coupled harddrivesin connection with FS 2002?I read somewhere that performance can increase quite a bit.Grateful for tips and info....Thanks!Hans HermanssonSWEDEN
June 26, 200223 yr What kind of RAID?:RAID 0. Striped pair. Writes and reads two both drives at the same time, but splits the data among the two. Almost doubly fast writing as to writing to a single drive. Almost doubly prone to failure, well doubly is a bit of a stretch, but if either drive fails, your logical drive is toast. Fastest RAID.RAID 1 Mirroring. Two drives, write to both, does not split, but doubles data written. Some performance degradation, high reliability.RAID 0 + 1. Striped Mirror. Self explanatory. Almost as fast as RAID 0. Reliability high.RAID 3 Striping with redundancy. Uses CRC or some other algo to write checksum to one drive. Can stand single drive failure. Slow write, fast read. High reliability.RAID 5 Same as RAID 3 but writes CRC across all drives.I knew this stuff already, but I refreshed my memory here:http://www.land-5.com/white_papers5.htmYou can too! Cheers,bt
