I've ordering a system from falcon northwest, and they called me up saying that they can't give me the 1 gig memory I asked for, because Crucial only makes 256 sticks, and the amd board only has three slots. Questions: first, is 768 mb enough for FS2002 plus all the add ons, and if not, what brand that makes 512 chips is good? the system I ordered is:Coolermaster ATC-201 Aluminum Mid TowerEnermax Whisper 450 Watt Power SupplyAsus A7V-333 5PCI USB2.0 AMD USE PC2700AMD Athlon XP 2100+Coolermaster Socket A CPU Heatsink/FannVidia GeForce4 Ti4400 128MB DDRthanksL3

I would say 768 is MORE than enough.I have 1gb. I didn't have trouble getting 512's (PC800/RIMMS). I have 1gb cuz I wanted it, and RAM is cheap...just like you. I don't know enough about the new DDR RAM, especially the RAM designed for the 333 (166) buss to offer any more insight than that. I'm sure someone here does.Cheers,bt

Hi,I fully agree with Braun. 768MB is overkill if FS is your only focus. If you plan to use the machine for any video/image editing or the like then more memory the better. But for almost all games, FS included, 512MB on XP is plenty enough. The only thing about using a full three sticks of memory thats bad is possible stability issues. Sadly, there are few motherboards on the market today that don't have stability issues with more than four banks in use (one stick of double sided DDR RAM uses two banks, so two sticks of RAM uses four banks). Luckily for you, the A7V333 just happens to be one of those board that can be stable with six banks in use. Still, I'd highly recommend you stay with two sticks unless you want to put in 1.5GB... There's no reason to have more than two sticks otherwise.I'd definately call them back and request 512MB matched sticks if you want 1GB of memory. Or, if you'd like to stick with 768MB for monitary reasons, have them put in one 512MB stick and one 256MB stick... Just make sure they are of the exact same brand and not mismatched (Falcon NW is a high-end supplier so they should have no qualms with such a request). As for brand: since this is Falcon NW, they should have no problem putting in Corsair memory instead of Crucial either (I'm a bit suprised this isn't their default brand). In particular, I'd ask for two sticks of CMX512A-3000C2 memory. This is Crucial's fastest and more important most stable DDR memory for PC2700 to PC3200 speeds (which your motherboard fully supports). I highly recommend it. If you want 768MB, get one of the sticks above and one stick of CMX256A-3000C2.Good luck,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif

Just to add to Elronds post,One stick of 512mb memory of the same stick and brand generaly out performs two 256mb sticks.I would recommend one 512mb stick of Corsair XMS3000 and dont let them sell you short on something you dont want as it is your money. :)
