July 19, 200223 yr Just received my brand new Athlon XP2200 processor to replace my Tbird 1.4. My MB is Asus A7M266 with the latest Bios(107)After switching the old processor for the new one, the System will not post (No beep, nothing)! Replacing the old processor the system runs fine. After swithching the 2 processors back and forth and getting absolutely no responce with the new CPU I am ready to say that the CPU is defective.Am I overlooking something? As far as I could find out the MB , with the latest BIOS, should accept the XP Processor without any other changes required. It should at least post so I can go into the BIOS and check the settings.Any suggestions, tips? Condolences? I hate when this happens, Googlegear.com will replace the processor, but it will take another 10-14 days before I get the replacement CPU.http://members.cox.net/pstepanoff/images/OK_c2.gifPete S
July 20, 200223 yr XP2200 runs at a lower voltage, 1.65 if I remember right. If you are still running at 1.75 that might be the problem.
July 20, 200223 yr Thanks Paul,I guess this is something I can look into. I'll need to figure out how to adjust the voltage on the A7M266. I can't find how to set it from the Soft BIOS, so I gues I'll need to find the jumpers. Now where's that manual.http://members.cox.net/pstepanoff/images/OK_c2.gifPete S
July 20, 200223 yr Well according to Asus, the latest BIOS flash 107, sets the system up to accept through XP2200+. I went ahead and dropped the voltage to 1.65, went to jumpered setup, still no joy! Guess maybe the CPU is bad after all, Unless you have another idea?http://members.cox.net/pstepanoff/images/OK_c2.gifPete S
July 20, 200223 yr Well I guess the Asus Tech support either didn't know what they were talking about, or just flat out lied! The Asus A7M266 MoBo does NOT support the XP2200+ processor. I have confirmed this today. Well to be absolutely truthfull I never cared that much for this motherboard. I have always used Abit boards in the past, and the Asus board was not exactly to my taste, but I wanted DDR and they were available at the time.I am looking at a MSI KT3 board, they are AMD certified to run the XP2200+ processor and the cost is reasonable.http://members.cox.net/pstepanoff/images/OK_c2.gifPete S
July 20, 200223 yr Bummer Pete,As far as KT333 you my also want to look into the Epox 8K3A as it already has support for the XP2200s built in thermal protection and is the only KT333 board that I know of that has it.It can be found for about $100. or You may want to place your order for the brand new EP-8K5A2+ with the new VT8235 south bridge, the VT8235 supports USB2.0 and 8X V-link, is based on KT333 chipset but paired up with the VT8235 in south bridge.but then ocf course KT400 will come out in a few months, but I know you probably can't wait that long. :( Info here:http://www.epox.com/html/english/products/...rd/ep-8k3a+.htmTake care,
July 24, 200223 yr Thanks Paul,I went ahead and got the MSI KT333, like Epox it was XP Ready and also has thermal Protection built in. The board is running great and has lots of extras that my Asus didn't have. All in all I'm very happy with this purchase, and am very pleased with the way it handled the XP2200+ CPU.http://members.cox.net/pstepanoff/images/OK_c2.gifPete S
