August 6, 200223 yr I'm about to buy the following system for playing MSFS2k2 and would appreciate any opinions on how to get a better system and/or pay less for it. If you know of other sources for this system, then please let me know ... this is through MicronPC. I like them because of their upgradability and excellent customer support.$1450.00Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.0GHz (400FSB)(512K cache)512MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM-2 DIMMs60GB ATA-100 hard drive (7200 RPM)Integrated ATA-100 Controller16x48x Variable Speed DVD-ROM1.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive Integrated128MB DDR nVidia Geforce4 TI4600 w/Super FX Gaming BundleCreative Labs Sound Blaster Live!Altec Lansing AVS300 3-Piece Speaker System56K V.90 PCI ModemIntel Integrated 10/100 NIC 82562ETMinitower w/Front USBMicrosoft Windows XP Professional with Windows 2000 downloadNo MonitorNo KeyboardNo MouseThis system has the following:300 Watt power supply6 PCI slots4x AGP graphics slot6 USB, 1 parallel, 1 serial, 2 PS/2
August 6, 200223 yr I think this is a total Rip-off!! It's way to expensive. Why don't you use this opotunity and learn how to build one yourslef? It's not hard at all. There are many websites that will teach you how to. Here's price if you buy each parts invidualy.Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.0GHz (400FSB)(512K cache)$200512MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM-2 DIMMs$7060GB ATA-100 hard drive (7200 RPM)$70Integrated ATA-100 ControllerComes with Mabo16x48x Variable Speed DVD-ROM$501.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive IntegratedComes with the case128MB DDR nVidia Geforce4 TI4600 w/Super FX Gaming Bundle$300 without gaming bundle - $350 with bundleCreative Labs Sound Blaster Live!$50Altec Lansing AVS300 3-Piece Speaker System$50 at max. August 6, 200223 yr I agree with Georgi, that's WAY too much money for that system. If you don't want to bolt one together yourself (which I highly recommend - after all, if I can learn to do it anyone can) have it custom built by a local shop. Small computer shops are to be found almost everywhere and all of them will assemble a machine for almost nothing just to get the sale of the components (it only takes them about an hour to do the job). Take the specs in and have them give you a price - you'll enjoy the savings, have an upgradable machine, and local support.TripNorthwood 2.2a at 2.72Ghz Abit TH7II-R512MB Samsung 40ns PC800Gainward GF4 Ti4200 300/57030.30's DX8.1 WinXP ProInwin case / Enermax 431W PSU3DMark2001SE = 12055http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4088814
August 6, 200223 yr I just wanna double check, its DVD-ROM, right? Not DVD-RAM.In case its confusing, DVD-ROM can only read DVD and CDs, DVD-RAM can read and write CDs and DVDs.If its DVD-RAM and you have decided to get DVD-RAM, then that's fair price, but if its DVD-ROM that can only read, its not worht it.
August 8, 200223 yr Make sure not to cheap out on memory. I'd be wary of that $70 512 MB stick. Get Crucial or Mushkin. I recommend Crucial simply because they offer free shipping and a 10% discount on web orders, but you can pick up 512 MB of superb quality DDR memory from Crucial for $140 and with Crucial, it's easy to decide what type of memory is right for your computer simply by answering a few quick questions. Crucial will then pull up a list of their memory that will work with your computer along with prices and you just pick what you need and go straight to the order page. Just don't cheap out on memory. Low-quality economy memory can lead to access problems and many blue screens of death later. I can attest to this personally. Tim Kotula
August 8, 200223 yr That's the price I paid for my memory and I've never had problem. Actually I've never bought RAM from well known manufactures, I just buy cheapest ones and they always work for me.GeorgiEdit: And I think $140 is WAY WAY overpriced for only 512MB.
