GeForce 4 MX420 FS2002 problems

Featured Replies

Ok, here's my specs:1.7Ghz Pentium 4Win XP256 megs ram55 Gb HD, 30.5 gigs free spaceI've just installed a new Gainward GF4 Powerpack Pro/450 TV to replace my old GF2 MX. Now, FS seems a bit unstable (tends to crash when I change planes), reflections and antialiasing don't work (they worked before), and when I turn OFF 3D acceleration, FS comes up with a dialog saying that it's gone into safe mode because my computer is currently unable to use 3D acceleration. I'm using the standard Gainward drivers that came with the card.

Due to unfortunate GF4 MX series driver problems that occur only in FS2002 of course, GF4 MX series card do not support reflections. Overall, you should have saved your money and gotten a GF4 Ti series card for the purposes of Flightsim. Tim Kotula

Doh! Well, I actually play other kinds of games more than flightsim, so it's just a bit annoying not having reflections (or detail textures, I forgot to mention them). At least everything else works fine with the card, and my frame rate in FS is a lot better than before. And I really couldn't afford a Ti card anyway. Would downloading the Nvidia reference drivers do any good?

It's worth a shot. Btw, just heard about what might be a possible fix to this problem although it's a bit tedious. Fire up FS2002 and get your flight ready to go. Select a plane with the new reflective textures and when you're back at the Create a Flight screen, ALT-TAB out of FS then maximize back in again. For some people, this seems to work and gives them the reflectives. Tim Kotula

Nope, alt-tabbing didn't work. Downloading reference drivers now...

I had the same problems when i got the same card but I finally got it to work when i installed Nvidia's 40.41 drivers and now everything works fine, reflections etc all work without problemshttp://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_40.41Cheers,Ben.([email protected])
