Matrox Parhelia

Featured Replies

Hi,has anyone tried the Matrox Parhelia video card for FS2002?I see it advertised everywhere (including Avsim), but so far I haven't found any comments by flight simmers on how good it is?thanks for any commentsSascha

>Try asking this question in the Matrox Support Forum's >Gaming section: >http://forum.matrox.com/cgi-bin/mgaforum/Ultimate.cgi thanks JoakimE. I just did. There is an endless thread between a guy desperately trying to get the Parhelia work with FS2002 and the Matrox support team. What is impressive is how deeply the support team gets involved into the problem. Nevertheless the conclusion of what I read seems to be that Parhelia and FS2002 don't work together very well. No solution to the guy's problem was found. So unfortunately Parhelia is not for usSascha

I have the card and had some problems in the beginning. Tweaked a bit and got it working. New drivers were released on friday and I've been bush flying with the new Dash 7 the whole weekend. No problems at all other than text (ATC, Shift+z info) is little corrupt when using FAA.

>No problems at all other than text (ATC, >Shift+z info) is little corrupt when using FAA. Oh no, not another ATi! lol(My ATi used to do it all the time)

Other than that the drivers were rock solid from version 1.0. That can't be said of some previous ATi products... :-hah :-lol

Hi,Can you say something about framerates? I have relatively heavy AI traffic at most major (European) airports. Heathrow e.g. with some 80parking position. My framerate (GeForce 4 MX) usually gets fps between 25 and 35 (locked at 35). With heavy AI traffic it goes down to 8-10 fps which is bearable, but certainly not great. I heard that the Parhelia is poor on speed and framerates, and I don't want to do worse than with my current GeForce. Thanks for your help.Sascha

OK, I'll explain my settings first.I'm using two monitors in independent mode, one is 1280x960, other is 1024x768. See picture below. All settings in the game are pretty much maxed out and boxes checked. These are not:Terrain Mesh Complexity: 80Autogen Density: Very denseScenery Complexity: Very denseWater Effects: DetailMaximum Visibility: 60mi (this is my personal preference not based on performance)Traffic: 100%FPS locked at 26Fragment Antialias 16x is selected from the drivers.Using 'Game' gamma settings with Coloreal4Matrox.I don't look that much at FPS but flying with a Dash 7 everything is smooth. I usually fly in remote regions. Went to KLAX with these settings and Project Airbus A320 and it was around 8 - 12 FPS.

To bad that the support is excellent. The only advantage is that you can use multiple monitors, but as performance you will not gain anything. In fact you will see some decline in frame rates. I got the ATI 9700 Pro, which is a clear improvement in quality of the picture and just a slight increase in frame rates (I would say a constant 8 to 10 frame rates more than before with the same settings I had before).Regards,Alex
