Windows XP cannot find the Monitor

New custom system trying to use old Viewsonic PF790 monitor.ASUS A7V333 w/ onboard sound (C-Media)1Gb pc2700AMD2200+Twin WD 120G Special edition (8mb buffer) running as RAID 1Windows XP pro SP1ASUS V8420 DX (128mb TI4200) v29.40br driversViewsonic PF790 1024x768 100hzXP does not "recognize" the monitor and installs it as a "default" monitor. I can manually adjust the refresh rate, etc. via "Display - settings",... (the monitor is supposed to be able to handle 118 at 1024x768, but the choices are 100, then 120 in the "Display settings")When I go to the Advanced tab, and then the "ASUS - Advanced" tab to set 3D parameters, it complains: "Your monitor is not correct. To get VR worked (sic) properly, please install the proper Monitor driver from Windows or your monitor vendor".The Viewsonic XP drivers from:http://www.viewsonic.com/support/drivers.htmhave been installed, with no complaint from the Viewsonic installer, but no recognition from XP.It may be related, that the system crashes (SOMETIMES), when I use the FS2002 menu to look up "Map view", for example, and then the crash may occur on the switch back. Otherwise, the monitor works fine... and FS2002 seems to work fine with it, for the most part. With the Frame rate "fixed" at 30, I have seen no lower than about 18, flying amongst the tall buildings of Chicago in full Window mode.... still pretty smooth. All the sliders full right (including visibility) . About the only option unchecked is the anti-aliasing. And no extra AI aircraft other that what is built into FS.Don't know what might happen with 3D working properly, though.... Art.

Have to went into settings/monitors/drivers/choose specific location/uncheck the box so the list appears and check the list for manufacturer and choose viewsonic PF790 specifically. I have that same monitor and installed the CD drivers; but had to manually go thru the hassle of picking em' from the list before the computer would use em'.

Thanks...The trouble is that XP does not show me a list... just "default"... and I don't have a driver in the classic form with an "inf" file. Viewsonic provides the XP driver as an executable that you just run and the driver gets installed (somewhere) :-)The good news is, that I have managed, (after many hours of tweaking) to get everything "working" (manually adjusting the display settings as close as possible to conform to the monitor's capabilities). Even the 3-D visual-reality glasses are now "ok".And you can't beat the raw power of the Athlon and those WD drives. Art.

If you run the CD and tell it to copy the drivers to the harddrive, they should be there in the list. If you going into settings/monitor/driver tab/let me choose specific driver, the list is there. There's a box checked just above the list. YOu have to uncheck it and then the list appears. I just went through that. Had to call tech support to figure out how to access the list with XP. Tech told me to uncheck the box and there it was. I felt kinda dumb. You'll likely have problems in the future if you're just running under default and won't be able to take full advantage of that monitor. Good luck.

Sorry....I finally figured out how to get the list.... just not used to XP's way of doing things yet...Got it done.... and Thanks...System seems to have stabilized lately.... hope this keeps up.Art.
