Does DDR RAM really make a difference?

Featured Replies

I just built a system using mostly parts laying around the house, but I suspect that performance might not be optimal with this combination of hardware. The one real concern is the RAM. The motherboard (ECS K7S5A) supports regular PC133 SDRAM as well as DDR memory, and to get this thing running I used a 512 MB ECC PC133 that I had sitting around. I'd like to know if DDR SDRAM will really make a noticable difference in performance, and if so, what I can expect in real-world performance such as framerates in FS2002, as opposed to just benchmarks and other theoritical measurements. :-bla Thank you!ECS K7S5AAthlon XP 1600+512MB ECC PC133Radeon 8500 64 MBIBM 18.2 GB 10K RPM UW SCSI3Adaptec AHA-2940UWToshiba DVD-ROMLite-On 16x10x40Windows 2000 SP3:-beerchug

I know this impacts your 3Dmark (madonion.com) score. I have a comprable system (http://www.ccgr.org/system.htm) to yours and I get around 7500 3dmarks. I can imagine your flight sims will thank you for it.
