November 22, 200223 yr I have been thinking about upgrading to an Athlon XP some time during the first half of next year. My idea would be to get a 2100 or 2200 plus associated memory and a new mainboard, if required - the ASUS A7V133 does not support XPs, does it?. Later on, then, I would want to find a new video card (GF4 or Radeon 9xxx).Are there any specific mainboards or video cards fitting the above specs which you could recommend to me right now, or will there be some new releases in the following months which I might consider? However, do you think an Athlon XP 2100 or 2200 would harmonize well with the GF3 Ti 200 I have right now until I would be able to throw in a new card?I don't want to spend fortunes on the entire package either, I should add, which is why a P4 would be out of question. Thanks!
November 22, 200223 yr I think that motherboard has the bus speed to handle the newer processors (266Mhz). http://usa.asus.com/mb/socketa/a7v133/overview.htm I wouldn't recommend using old memory, why have a fast CPU with limited memory? That GF3 video card shold work fine, but I would highly recommend a Ti4200 or better to get you more FPS.

Well, that's why I would get some new memory as well :-) .>That GF3 video card shold work fine, but I would highly >recommend a Ti4200 or better to get you more FPS. Yep, of course, but I may not be able to afford both the board/CPU/memory upgrade *and* a new video card at the same time - that's why I was asking.
November 22, 200223 yr Hm...does compatibility between processors and mainboards only depend on the MB's maximum bus speed (and, of course, socket type)?Pretty much, if the CPU isn'tt supported off the bat, a BIOS update may solve that. AMD XP's use socket A like the previous Athlons. The GeForce 3 should tide you over for a little while. Good luck!
