December 4, 200223 yr I am designing an Nforce 2 system...what do you think of this baby? Is the price fair? Good components? be honesthttp://www.progresssystemsinc.com/behemoth.html
December 4, 200223 yr The price isn't that bad, but it's equiped with an XP2200. This processor still uses a FSB of 266. However, the NForce 2 supports a FSB of 333 (166 x 2), which means it is best paired with an XP2600 or 2700. These newer CPUs have a FSB of 333, and will be able to run synchronously on your new MB.The GForce 4 MX440 is integrated in at least some vartieties of the Asus MB, if not all. So I'm not sure why they state it's not integrated. Perhaps there are some Asus boards without. Regardless, this GPU will not really be adequate for gaming, so you'll want to add your own graphics card. Finally, the NForce2 chipset is designed to use dual channel memory, so make certain that the 512MB of memory come in two sticks of 256 each. If there is only one stick, you won't recieve the benefit of the dual channel functionality. In summary, the new A7N8X boards are very nice, but make sure they're properly equiped. Hope this helps.
December 4, 200223 yr There are no NForce 2 boards with video yet, so that's why the video had to be added. I'll ultimately wait until video is available on the board until the system is unveiled :DGood point on the CPU I'll bump that up, for now I was just designing it with the best bang for the buck. But power is nicer.
December 5, 200223 yr Go to http://www.tomshardware.com. They just did a nForce2 roundup. I personally just bought the Asus A7N8X Deluxe board. Love it. Stable, fast as all get out, and equipped. I'm running an XP2000 CPU, but as soon as the "pain" from my wife subsides about the money I spent on the upgrade, I'm going to go with whatever XP CPU is running just under $300.I'm also running a new Radeon 9700 Pro. Frame rates went from about 13-16 sitting at Meigs with the default Cessna (no AA) to limited to 25fps with 4X AA and 8X aniostropic. I'm not too sure what all that stuff really means, but it sure do look purty.Of course, that's a big expense. But the board and video card work perfectly together.Chris
December 5, 200223 yr I just ordered the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe and a AMD XP2700+ along with two 256 sticks of PC3200. This alnog with my ATA133 WD Hard Drive and my GEForce4 Ti4400 should make FS2002 sing nicely.
