Single vs. dual CPU

Featured Replies

I'm aware from previous posts that MSFS is unable to take advantage of a dual processor. But what I don't know is whether a dual processor can make a difference when there is more than MSFS running. For instance, I typically have MSFS, WidevieW, Roger Wilco, Squawk box, and ActiveSky running simultaneously. I have a recurring problem of my voice transmissions breaking up when all these things are going, but voice is just fine if I'm only using RW. So will a dual CPU help in this situation, or am I better off going with a better CPU (per my sig below, see my profile comments for the server specs, which are relevant here)?I'm asking in part because I'm making a transition into more graphic design, and want a good setup that will give the server more power. I'm seriously considering new nVidia 2 chipset (i.e. Asus A7N8X), however I realize that ClawHammer is only 3-6 months away (not to mention hyperthreading with the new P4 3.06 CPU is already available). But will a dual CPU be an even better route? Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

well first make sure you have an operating system that can support dual processors. (Windows 2000,XP pro, Linux) Hyper Threading is noticably faster with many applications but only Windows XP and Linux will support it. I have not experience with multiprocessor systems yet so I can't tell you if it's a worthwhile investment or not.
