December 19, 200223 yr I have a question. I am currently running an Athlon XP2000+ CPU ON an ASUS A7V333 MBO. I have two sticks or 256MB DDR RAM 2700. There is one remaining slot for an addition stick of RAM. I would like to add another 256 MB. HOWEVER, according to ASUS. If the third slot is used, all the RAM on the MBO drops from 2700 to 2100! So, instead of 512MB@2700 I would have 768MB@2100. I am not sure whether this would be an upgrade or a downgrade!! Any suggestions??John-PaulToronto

I don't see it anywhere in my A7V333 user's manual.ONE issue about 3 sticks of memory is heat. There is a recommendation (by reviewers) to use only slot 1 and 3, in order to leave the extra space between the sticks. I was having some instability with 2 sticks in 1 and 2. I cannot say for sure that it had anything to do with the memory configuration... as it was a new system with a new video board and XP and all that added up to lots of teething problems. But I did move the memory to 1 and 3 with, at least, no worse than before.Art.
December 21, 200223 yr >If the third slot is used, all the RAM on >the MBO drops from 2700 to 2100! There are some hints by posters in the newsgroups that this was a problem that was solved with BIOS revision 1006 or 1007 and later. They are up to 1015 now. You can download the latest from the ASUS.com site.Art.
