December 27, 200223 yr I'm having some problems with my computer and my new zip drive. Perhaps someone can shed some light on the subject, because im clueless right now. I tried everything almost and still no good.Ok, I got a parallel port 250MB zip drive for christmas. I requested parallel port because I have both my USB slots filled. I installed it the way the instructions said (install software first, then hook up the drive). Drive installed successfully, it reads my disk. Ok the problem is that my computer is EXTREMELY jumpy when i install the drivers on my machine (See pic 1 of me turning zip drive on and off). I hooked it into my older K6-400 machine the exact same way, and theres no issue (See pic 2, no CPU usage). I even got it to work on my old IBM XT with a 4.77MHz 8088 CPU too without any issue (no pic LOL)! Amazing! My computer (stats below) and the K6 have XP SP1 installed and 256MB RAM (and the same theme if you can tell, and nearly the same BIOS settings too), XT has DOS 3.30 on it and 640K RAM. I am also the one who can take a computer completely apart and put it back together and it works. Yet, i cannot get this zip drive to work efficiently on my computer. I tried different Iomegaware versions, looked in the help area, doublechecked my work, still does it. The zip drive DOES work on this computer, like I said, but until I can solve this problem, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers when I need to use the drive is my only solution. Thanks for any help, can provide more info if requested.
December 27, 200223 yr weird problem. How is your parallel port setup? Does the Zip Drive manual state a preference like ECP or bidirectional? I would check your BIOS and try a different mode. Good luck!
