February 1, 200323 yr I have an 80Gb drive running Windows 2000 Pro and am using only 7.87Gb worth of space. I have a second 20Gb drive to which I want to copy all of my data from the first drive (including Windows 2000 Pro). My question is this. Can I do a typical disk copy from the first drive to the second like would be possible from the second (being only a 20Gb drive) to the first (the larger 80Gb drive)? Even though my first drive has only 7.87Gb worth of data on it, does the fact that it is a larger drive prevent me from copying all the 7.87Gb worth of data to the smaller drive? Thanks,Robb
February 1, 200323 yr partitiion size should not matter for drive copying I recommend Symantec Ghost...it's beautiful
February 1, 200323 yr If you were asking about "diskcopy", that only works for floppy drives. Among the standard utilities, the one you would want to use would be "xcopy". Do a "xcopy /?" at the DOS prompt to see the syntax. You want to use the "/s" switch, I believe, to be sure you recurse all the subdirectories.-Basil
February 1, 200323 yr I can't copy from a larger drive to a smaller drive using the install sofware that comes with the WD drives. I can do it the other way round but not from a large to a small drive. Also, I can't get to DOS in Windows 2000. I will look for the Ghost software at Bestbuy this afternoon. Hopefully, that will do the trick. I just HOPE I can copy from a larger to a smaller drive...ThanksRobb
