Dell Upgrade

In the process of upgrading Dell 800 Mhz CPU to :3.06 Mhz HT - or - 2.80 Mhz - or - 2.66 MhzPriority is FS2002 and FS2004 efficiency. Any pro or con comments on HT technology appreciated.RAM : 512 Mhz planned.Video Card : Radeon 9700 TX vs. PRO.Im planning on using the new system for FS only with older 800 Mhz for WideFs support such as RC3, FSMETEO, etc.In addition, using a pair of e-machine "throw-aways" for Left-Front & Right-Front Wideview functions.Any and all comments, recommendations appreciated especially if the extra CPU horsepower is worth the expense. Many thanks in advance.

I think any of those will do well for FS2002, and probably for FS2004. As for the extra horsepower, I'm of the opinion that you can never have too much, especially for MSFS. Somebody is always coming up with something -- new a/c, finer elevation mesh, more AI -- that takes whatever you have to the limit.Does Dell sell any Athlon AMD XP systems with nForce2 motherboards? If not, I'd look into finding a vendor that does. Personally, I think the AMD XP is currently the better chip for FS (better FPU performance). -Basil

the 3.06 will give you hyper threading but carries a couple hundred dollar premium. To cut cost go with the 2.8GHz
