GF4 Ti 4200 vs. GF4 Ti 4600 / DVI-output?

Featured Replies

Hey all,Thinking of doing some upgrading in the not-too-distant future and I'm trying to sort through the overwhelming pool of information out there about all the different cards available.Just to keep things clear, I'm really not considering an ATI card at this point ... so if you're gonna post and say "Get the 9700" or "ATI whoops on Nvidia now", let me save you the time.I'm interested in having someone explain what the performance difference is between a GF4 Ti 4200 (64MB 8X AGP) and a GF4 Ti 4600 (128MB 4X AGP). My understanding is that the 8X AGP would be the "better" card, but yet it has half as much video memory attached so I'm confused? Also, could anyone vouch for DVI-output capability as being worth-while or not? I'm considering a nice Iiyama flat-panel monitor, and have heard that DVI-output really makes a big difference ... is that a true statement?Appreciate all the information guys! Hope you're all well!~Shaun O'Neil

I read in a recent Maximum PC magazine that 8X AGP is actually a hair slower than AGP 4X in their tests. In other words I wouldn't pay extra money for AGP 8X. Not only does the 4600 have better memory but the video clock and memory speeds are faster giving it an increase in performance. Is it worth the extra $100? That I leave up to you. The newer flat screens are getting better for games. The first generation flat screens were not crisp enough for most gamers.
