March 8, 200323 yr Hey everyone,I need to replace my motherboard and videocard as they both have suspect, swollen capacitors, a couple with black crust.I currently have an Abit KT7A and a Gainward Geforce 4 Ti 4200, both of which happen to be affected by the corporate espionage fiasco of a couple years ago.Could anyone tell me what is on the market now which would be solid and stable with my AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz and if possible, would not require me to replace my PC133s just yet. Unfortunately, I am currently on a tight budget, but do not want to downgrade because of this repair. My caps fortunately have not popped yet, but I do not want to give them much more time.Any advice is appreciated. Thanks,Dave
March 9, 200323 yr Dave,SDRAM eh? Well here's a board that can handle DDR and SDRAM MSI KM2ML Via KM266 SktA DDR+SDR VGA LAN. I pretty much sell it on request for $65. It does have onbaord video which is not good for gaming. You can disable it in the bios. As for video cards the Ti4200 is still a great card for the money. Unless you want to go with ATI 9500 or so.
March 10, 200323 yr Hi CCGR,Thanks for the reply. I actually bit the bullet yesterday and purchased a new board, which happens to be an MSI as you recommend. So far it seems to be a very nice board. I also decided to go with 512 megs of PC2100 ram as ram prices were far lower than I remember last time I purchased dimms. Thanks,Dave
