March 20, 200323 yr My current system is as follows:XP1800+Abit KR7A-133GF3 Ti500 64MB512MB PC2100 DDR RAMSBLiveIBM Deskstar 75GXP 30GBWinXP ProI'm planning to upgrade the hard disk, graphics card and possibly the CPU. I've settled on one of the following:Option 1:Western Digital 80GB ATA100/7200 w/ 8MB cache, XP2100, GF4 Ti4800SEOR....Option 2:Stick with the existing XP1800, get the new Western Digital HD, and a Radeon 9700 ProThe difference in price between these two options is minimal (only
March 20, 200323 yr There's only a 20mhz difference between the CPU's I'd go with the 9700 option. Use the latest catalyst drivers 3.2 I believe.
March 20, 200323 yr I was thinking along those lines - 1.53 to 1.83GHz is only a 13% increase. Trouble is I don't know how much difference that 13% would make in FS2002 :)
March 20, 200323 yr Nick, Being mindful that all mileage is variable, I'd offer the following. The difference in speed between the XP1800 and XP2100 really isn't large enough to make much of a difference with FS2002. The Ti4800 is basically an 8X AGP version of the Ti4400. And the performance difference between the Ti4400 and the Ti500 isn't a huge one. So....I'd definitely go with the 9700 option. If there is to be any noticeable performance gain I'd think it would be with the greatly enhanced graphic capabilities of the ATI card. I don't have one (yet :-)) so I can't comment on the drivers.Trip
