Need Video Card/Monitor Guru...

Featured Replies

Hi,Been thinking about getting one of them fancy 20 inch plus LCD monitors for FlightSim, like a Viewsonic VP230. Whilst researching to get smart, I discovered that, according to one article, that most video cards will not support DVI resolution above 1280X1024. I went to a couple of card sites, ATI, PNY, etc., and the data available was more than I could understand. Is there any info available as to what cards support the new high end monitors? Thanks for some help.Regards,Bob I... in sunny Florida

That may be something to do with the interface. Most LCD monitors only support the low resolutions Example NEC 2010x 1280x1024. You might get 1600x1200 when you go up around $2-grand.Given that technology is obsolete as soon as it's out the shop door... I am afraid that I just cannot see any justification for the LCDs, unless desk-space is absolutely so critical. For a third of the cost, or less, I can get a flat-screen CRT, ... even an old one such as the Viewsonic PF790... with, I believe, a better display than LCDs.When we are talking the 20 inch displays, that leaves me enough money left over to buy a high-end video card AND a motherboard :-) Even something with a high-end price, like the Sony E540 (1920x1440 .24ag) 19.8" viewable, is less than half the price of the NEC, above.Art.
