April 19, 200323 yr (I posted this in the hardware forum but didn't get any replies there so far, so I'm trying my luck here. :-))Tonight I set myself up to fly on VATSIM for the first time in a while, and after over an hour of planning (my saved route apparently had become obsolete with the new AIRAC cycle... :-roll) I called up Ground to get my IFR clearance, only to find that ATC couldn't hear me. :-( I tested the mic in Roger Wilco - no sound. I tested it in the Windows sound recorder (not sure what its name is in English: the most basic, "default" sound recording program). Nothing recorded there either, just background static.I ruled out the microphone itself as the cause of the problem by checking it in another computer, and I find it hard to believe that it has to do with the sound card since I can hear input from the mic through the speakers if microphone playback isn't muted (but that doesn't mean that I can hear anything I record, regardless of the mic volume). So I guess this leaves it to some kind of software problem, but what?!I haven't made any software changes that I can imagine would affect the sound - the only major change I've done lately is double the amount of RAM.My specs:P4 1.7 GHz, 512 MB RDRAM, GeForce2 Pro, Soundblaster PCIThanks for any help,Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing
April 19, 200323 yr Hello Martin,Go down into the system tray area by the clock and double click the little speaker. Click options-properties and select playback. Make sure michrophone box is checked. Hit OK and find the microphone slider. Move it to the top and make sure mute is not checked. Then click advanced. Mic2 select should be unchecked and Mic Boost should be checked. Then go back to the options-properties. Then select record and make sure the mic button is checked. Go to the microphone slider and move it all the way to the top and make sure the select box is checked. Then hit advanced and make sure Mic2 select isn't checked. Exit out of everything. Last but not least, if this is a headset mic, make sure it's turned on on the headset itself. Hopefully this works. I've had the exact same problem and this has worked for me so I hope it'll help you. Note that you may get really loud mic input or even squeaking speakers, and if that happens you may need to pull the sliders down or turn off the mic boost. Have fun, and let me know if it works!Marchttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg
April 19, 200323 yr Hi Marc,Apparently the select box for the microphone recording slider wasn't checked for some reason. I feel stupid now for not noticing it, but sometimes it takes an "amplified procedures checklist" like yours to make sure everything is set correctly. :-)Thanks a lot,Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing
April 19, 200323 yr Marc, I have Soundblaster 5.1 card. This does not work for me. When I do it as you say I here myself in the speakers when I speak. Who ever i'm talking to can here me but i also here myself trough the speakers. The only way i can use the microphone and have who ever i"m talking to hear me and me not here myself is when I chose headphones in the surround mixer.I've called Creative and they have no answer for me, been to the forums and no answer for the problem. Any ideas for me?? Thanks in advance, Bob
April 19, 200323 yr Bob,Have you tried muting the microphone volume on the playback panel? (You should check the "sound off" box below the microphone volume slider.)Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing
April 19, 200323 yr Yea, when i mute it on playback, then no one can here me when i speak. When i do the test microphone in Roger Wilco, the only way Roger Wilco is able to hear is with the microphone unmuted in playback. But then I hear myself through the speakers!!! If you or anyone else can help would be appreciated. Thanks
April 19, 200323 yr Hi Bob, I can usually hear myself too (it's not that uncommon), but I would recommend going in like I said in the previous post to the sound properties and disabling those mic boost switches. You should then adjust the volume of the mic in the playback mode to suit your needs. You may want to increase RW mic input and just decrease the regular mic volume until the sound of your voice from the speakers is reduced.Let me know how it goes!Marchttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg
