May 3, 200323 yr Trailing seems now negligible under 25 ms according to most people. On my one year old laptop, details however disappear at dawn or dusk, dark textures becoming almost black. As FS2K2 is quite a bit underlit, I wonder how the latest LCD screens render darkish textures ? I'm thinking of buying a NEC 1760NX or a Samsung 172T for my mew rig.Dominique
May 4, 200323 yr I bought the Hitachi 174sxb, its a 17" TFT with around a 16ms refresh rate. I love it except for the following cautions:1. If you have a need for precise color, then any TFT/LCD is not for you. If you do design, desktop publishing, or graphic work were color is important than stick with a CRT. All LCD's, even this one from Hitachi exaggerate the colors a bit.2. The black level. Once again no TFT/LCD will give you a true black yet. So you are correct in saying that scenes in the dark (at night) tend to get washed out, loss of detail. 3. Lastly, you need a good video card. Why? Because in order for any LDC/TFT to look its best, you need to run it at its native resolution. You see these screens generally only will work with one set resolution...in the 17" case its 1280x1024. So in order for your games to look their best they need to run at that screen size. They will step down to a lower resolution, but any text on the screen, and FS has text, tend to look really bad.Now on the plus side....1. The look. Lets face it, they just look cool. Since my computer, keyboard, mouse, desk, chair, is black - the black TFT looks great. The flat panel and the thinness is great. Really makes a nice "show piece".2. Desktop real estate. Both real and virtual. The size of the monitor is great. Coming from a 19" CRT I gained almost half of my desk space back. In the computer world, using the native 1280x1024 resolution, I gained some extra desktop space there too.3. Heat - this TFT generates almost no heat. Not too big now, but in the summer time, my old 19" CRT would heat the room up almost 10c. That makes for a cooler environment for the computer to run in also...since the room doesn't get hot from the monitor, the computer will stay cooler also. So, for me, I am happy with the TFT's....its not perfect...but I can live with its faults. Hope that helps a bit.- J[div align=center][link:www.jetdoc.com/bks.html]Visit The Bookstore & Gift Shoppe][/b
