May 3, 200323 yr Get the 43.45 Drivers for your graphics card, make sure you have DX 9, other then that, not much more you can do if you dont want to overclock, hopefully some other people have some more idea's for you.
May 4, 200323 yr Matt,First things first. Why are you running XP on it's own partition?. If it is due to the fact that you would like to save apps and such in the evnt of a crash that's a good idea but due to the way XP access's and stores files your choking it's performance by splitting your disk in 2 separate partitions. Now, 8-12 FPS is not that bad for your combination. yes you can do better but don't look for unrealistic goals. with that said as far as tweaking your setup goes, where are your sliders set?. Most of them can be set at around 75-80% w your current VC. You may want to turn cloud density and ground shadows off for a slight boost.Head over to www.blackviper.com and download his tweak sheet for XP's services. Using the settings under "Internet connection" disable those services that are reccomended. This should help free up anywhere from 20-70 Megs of memory.Download and install the latest drivers from www.omegacorner.com.Turn the wick up on that card a little. you can safely run a 50-100 Mhz overclock on the core side and a 50-70 Mhz overclock on the memory side w it.If you spend some cash and invest in a good Heatsink and fan for your CPU the Abit board is a very capable performer when it comes to Overclocking.Bobby
May 4, 200323 yr Disable Vsync inthe drivers..in order to do that for Open GL and D3D you need to get an Nvidia tweak utility called Coolbits
May 4, 200323 yr ccgr,Thats why I told him to go with the Omega's. (Besides the performance and visual quality they give). The tweak is already in there as far as I ca remember. Disabling Vsync is an option unless he's running his monitor over 75Mhz refresh rate at which point it doent really hurt performance that much.Bobby
