New Video Card

Featured Replies

Hi all! :-wave I'm a newbie with computers, so I was hoping to get some advice from you guys. :D My Birthday is Thursday (the big 16) and I'm looking for a new video card. The current one I have... sucks... I mean its an Intel 82845G/GL Graphics Controller. I was thinking about the "ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128 MB." I'm running an Intel P4 with 2.0 ghz and 512 MB DDRAM -- running Windows XP Home. What do you think about my choice? Or should I look into the GF4s and what not.Thanks!:-jumpy------------------------Kenneth WeikTWVA 395Travel Services Directorhttp://www.fly-twva.com-----------------------

Another thing, do you know if the 9800 Pro comes with a setup so I could hook it up to my TV for Ultra large FS. Thanks! :D:-jumpy------------------------Kenneth WeikTWVA 395Travel Services Directorhttp://www.fly-twva.com-----------------------

The big question you need to ask yourself is 'Can my hardware take it?' If the answer is yes, then go for it!

Thanks. I think so, what do you mean can it take it? P4 2.0 ghz and 512 DDR RAM should do it, but I can always get a ram upgrade to 1024, would that be required?Thanks!:-jumpy------------------------Kenneth WeikTWVA 395Travel Services Directorhttp://www.fly-twva.com-----------------------

Can't go wrong with your pick. The 9800Pro is Beautiful. The NV5900 Is also a great card but image quality is better with the ATI.Good Choice!Bobby

I mean, do you have an 8x AGP compliant board? And do you have a big enough power supply?Nah, 512 should be good enough to run the 9800(no reason that it shouldn't)

No idea, getting it though, if it doesn't work, I'll just return it and ask you guys again. Thanks!:-jumpy------------------------Kenneth WeikTWVA 395Travel Services Directorhttp://www.fly-twva.com-----------------------

if you have an OEM computer, like dell or compaq, then you might have trouble upgrading it. but other than that the 9800 pro is a beautiful thing, really. and i have my 9700 pro on my big HDTV and its wonderful... i think you have to buy the seperate DVI>HDTV converter from ATI tho

I have a gateway, RAM was easy to put in LOL! Any idea how much those sepearte adapters cost? Or where I could get them? Thanks!:-jumpy------------------------Kenneth WeikTWVA 395Travel Services Directorhttp://www.fly-twva.com-----------------------
