May 31, 200323 yr The only upgrade I see possible for COF is my video card.I have a AMD Anthon 2000XP ( 1.667 Gz ), 512MB PC2100 RAM,GF-ti4600 128 MB, running under W98se.Right now I can only run 2xAA with 4tapAF with good frame rate.I have most FS2002 sliders full right and I lock at around 20FPS - usually achieving that. ( at least during day flights ).Would a ATI9700 be a good choice? If you have a similar set up and upgraded, what did you get.- Thanks, Myles
June 1, 200323 yr you cant go wrong with a 9700, although you might want to upgrade your OS to XP Pro, beacuse installign a 9700 pro on a system that had any previous video card on it will probably give you some trouble and you may have to reformat. or maybe not. but i would say 9700 pro, and XP pro should get you up to standards, and if it is in your budget, get some DDR2700 if its compatible with your mobo
June 2, 200323 yr Myles,Depends on where you want to be 6 months from now. The best choice is based on your budget. Depends on how much you want to spend. Under $200 Go w a 9500Pro, Best card for the money and with a softmod and the right drivers will run as good as a stock 9700. Between $200 and $400 the only choice is the 9700Pro. If money is no object than a 5900 from Nvidia or a 9800Pro is the card of choice. All of these cards will fully support DX9 and allow you to run most games coming out this year and probably next. The one thing you do have to realize though is COF and FS2002 are both very CPU dependant. Although your CPU is not bad it is not fully able to take advantage of any of the video cards listed above.Depending on your motherboard and budget you may want to consider upgrading to one of the newer Barton core XP's. A 2500+ barton is currently around $95 through Newegg.com. If your motherboard supports it you would also want to pair this with some PC2700 DDR from Corsair or Mushkin. For Less than $300 you could purchase a 2500+, Asus MB and 512 megs XMS PC2700. Pair this w a 9500Pro and for less than $500 you'll have a wicked system for most games and apps you would want to run. This could also be done in the future w just a video card purchase now.DO NOT purchase just thememory as was mentioned in another post. Unless your going to overclock your current CPU you will see no benefit as the memory will have to be underclocked. Your current CPU sports a 266 Mhz FSB and doesnot support PC2700 unless it is OC. Your throwing money away. Hope this helpsBobby
