Featured Replies

Did you have any problems with the uninstall / new install?I know Windows98SE is 5 years old, but I am not upgrading the OS at this time.Anyway, just wondering if there are any special issues withinstall the ATI card. Thanks,Myles

ive heard stories of ATI cards hosing peoples hard drives and they have to reformat to get it to work properly.

Well, I just went from a Geforce2 GTS to a Radeon 9500 Pro using Win98FE, and I had absolutely NO problems at all.Make sure you do things correctly though :-1. Use Detonator Destroyer to total uninstall your nvidea drivers (follow the onscreen instructions carefully). Detonator Destroyer can be downloaded at http://www.guru3d.com2. Reboot and when your system detects your old Geforce card again, DON'T install the driver which Win98 wants to, but install a standard VGA driver instead. Reboot to make sure the system is happy with this VGA driver.3. Power down and remove the Geforce card. Then insert the Radeon card. Power up.4. Win98 will detect the new card and ask to install drivers. DON'T. Keep the existing standard VGA driver.5. Run the ATI driver install (I'm using the latest Catalyst 3.4) and let it do it's stuff.6. Install the ATI Control Panel applet which matches the Catalyst driver version (note these are separate downloads).7. Reboot as it asks you, then you're done.Chris E, ENGLANDhttp://www.circle-software.co.ukAvoid AGP texturing = Better Performance ;)

9700 Pro here. Go for it and follow Chris' istallation guide. I have been using it for more than 6 months and it get's along very well with W98SE and the rest of the hardware I have. Never had a single problem and get a superb image quality and performance. Just be sure to have a good power supply. Also you could check the Rage3d site and forum http://www.rage3d.com and make sure not to run in some compatibility issues reported with a few motherboards.Hope this helps.Gig
