Dell 8250

Featured Replies

I have a Dell 8250 with 512 mb of Rambus PC1066 installed. If I upgrade to 1.0 g of ram will it make a difference on the frame rates that I'm currently seeing..I have a 2.4 gig, Radeon 9700 TX video card running at 128 meg.The reason I'm asking is that the Rambus PC1066 costs $ 129.00 for a 256meg addition and I need 2 of them so it's going to be quite expensive to upgrade. Just wandering if anybody knows if it will make a difference in performance when running FS2002 etc. or will it be a waste of $$..Regards,Jack Noullet

Short answer. No! It won't make any difference. 512mb is enough. That's what I have of PC1066.. Only thing I've noticed is on a couple of demanding payware aircraft, 1024mb would be nice. Only because after flying these particular aircraft and upon exiting the sim, I have to wait about 5 seconds for my desktop to show up.. Typical sign of all the ram being used. Otherwise, I see very little harddrive activity and instantaneous desktop when exiting the sim. You might want to look inside your box to see if you have two sticks of 256mb ram or four sticks of 128mb ram. If the later, it'll cost a lot more to go to 1024mb.

Thanks for the 'heads-up' on the four 128 sticks. Fortunately I have two of the 256 sticks so I'm 'OK' in that regard but judging from your abrupt 'No' answer, I think I'll wait on the ram addition and see how PIC767 & the new 737 NG operate with the existing set-up.Thanks for the info.Regards, jack noullet
