July 17, 200322 yr I am still confused about whether performance would increaseunder the following specific conditions.Say that my Anthon 2000+/GF4-ti4600 get 20 FPS in a certainFS2002 situation when using 2xAA and if I turn on 4xAA it goesdown to 15 FPS.I have heard that ATI cards can run 4xAA at 2xAA FPS speeds - is that true?If so then I should expect 20 FPS 4xAA with an ATI card in the same above FS2002 situation. Wouldn't it follow that using the ATI card in that same situation but at only 2xAA would mean greater than 20 FPS ?If so then an upgrade would improve performance over the GF4-ti4600 at the same AA level in the same FS2002 situation OR I could choose to get the same FPS but up my AA to 4x.Concur ?- Myles
July 17, 200322 yr Myles, Actually, the 9700 when run w 4xAA will outperform a 4600 by as much as 75%. This is an average granted but you will still see a greater percentage increase once AA is enabled. You also need to remeber that your cards performance is also in relation to your processor. The 9700 feeds off of fast CPU's. The faster the better. But to answer your question, the 9700 w 4XAA enabled should be able to pull around 25+ frames compared to the 4600. Again this is not written in stone. The 2 cards, once AA is enabled are really no longer even cl;ose to being in the same boat.Bobby
July 17, 200322 yr Totally agree with Bobby. I upgraded from a 4600 to a 9700 Pro last month. The 9700 just flat hands the 4600 it's lunch. I was shocked!! I could never really run the 4600 at anything greater than 2X AA, but the 9700 runs at 4X AA and 16X AF (couldn't do any better than 8X AF with the 4600), and still delivers better performance. And the visual quality is better with the 9700.AMD 2400XP @ 2.1GhzASUS A7N8X Deluxe 2.01 Gb PC 2700ATI 9700 Proand all the other assorted stuff
