August 2, 200322 yr Hi everyone,I have a Saitek X45 HOTAS system for flight simulation, and I've used this setup for about a year. And lately, the joystick components movements have become fairly stuck, that is, it takes a bit more force to move it from the center, and the movement is not smooth, but jerky due to friction. If you have had this problem too and do not know how to fix it, here is a simple tip:What you'll need is a cotton swab or two, and some petroleum jelly. Coat an end of the swab with some petroleum jelly- do so evenly, and do not get too much on it. Now, take the stick component and tilt it to the right, exposing the left part of the base. Swab some petroleum jelly underneath the round, black baseplate that is pressed to the base of the joystick component by a silver spring. Then, tilt the joystick left, and apply some to the right side. Then forward, backward, etc. After that, make sure that there is no excess petroleum jelly anywhere. Finally, move the stick in circles, then forward, backward, and side to side so that the jelly you put on it is distributed in an even fashion. This helps greatly to reduce the friction when moving the joystick, and thusly lets you maneuver your plane in quiet and consistent mannerisms.
