Blue screen error on bootup

Featured Replies

This problem is not sim related but computer in general. My computer is on the verge of crashing. I am starting to get the blue screen error when my computer boots up. When I try to boot up in safe mode, it hangs just after loading up the "agp440.sys" file.Is that an indication of vy video card going bad?P4 1.8768M SDRAMWindows XP HomeGeforce 2 Ultra 64M NVIDIA 44.03Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound CardMSI 845 Pro ATX MotherboardBrent Hebert

Brent,If your running XP try using system restore to step it back to just before you started having your problems. If not, try booting to safe mode and than reinstalling your Video Card drivers. Also, try removing and reinstalling your Ram. There is such a thing as "Heat Creep" that will slowly work the Ram loose enough to cause issues.Try these first.Bobby

Thanks Bobby,According to Microsoft's database, it points to an incompatible video driver. That is when I changed to the newer drivers. I did update to the 45.23, however that didn't work.I did try to start up in VGA mode and it worked a couple of times, however the problem started in VGA mode as well. Will give the RAM thing a try. As far as the Restore function, the earliest date was August 28 and I was having problems with the computer before that time. I just changed my bootup setting so as not to automatically reboot on error.Brent Hebert

Bobby,Just an update. I went in and uninstalled the 45.23 drivers and reinstalled the 28.23 and the problem went away. I switched back to 45.23 and the blue screen error came back, so it does look like a driverissue. I have been running 44.03 for a long time and they worked perfectly until recently when I began having problems.I am not sure how to tell what my AGP Bus is on my motherboard. The newer cards require AGP 3.0 chipset. I don't know if mine is a 1.0 or 2.0 to support the Geforce 2 Ultra 64Meg.Brent Hebert

Brent,If you give me a breakdown of your current HW such as MB maker and model I can help w more info.Bobby

Boby,As of today 9/5/2003 I have upgraded my system, unfortuntatly I am still having problems with the NVIDIA 45.23 drivers. I changed to 44.03 and seems to work better.P4 Intel 3.0G 800FSBIntel D875PBZ Motherboard(2) Kingston DDR400 512M= 1G RAMAsylum Geforce FX5900 (128)Maxtor 120G HDDMaxtor 60G HDD400 Watt Power SupplyBrent Hebert
