September 11, 200322 yr These days I was thinking about possibly getting a new hard drive by the end of the year, and since I would not want to go through another reformat and reinstall orgy I would prefer to use Norton Ghost to clone the content of my present HD onto the new drive, and then repartition any space that might still be left. However - and please don't laugh at me if this should be a dumb question :-shy - , I was wondering whether any data about the actual model of my current hard drive was possibly stored anywhere in the NTFS system volume information, and if so, whether this might cause any problems when trying to Ghost the content of my current HD. I'm currently running on a Western Digital WD1000BB 100 gig, 7200 rpm drive with 2 MB buffer and in ATA100 mode (and am very satisfied with it), and am eyeing a WD1200JB or 1800JB, or even an UDMA133 drive, such as the Maxtor DiamondMax 6Y120P0 with 120 gigs. I would, of course, keep my current HD as a secondary device if I should indeed go for a larger HD.Thanks! :D
September 12, 200322 yr Go with the Maxtor DiamondMax drive. I recently got a 80GB DiamondMax 6Y080P0 8MB cache drive and been very impressed with it (even running it in ATA/66). It runs circles around my old slow WD400EB 5400rpm drive.
