November 10, 200322 yr I have only ever installed Windows 98 on a PC but as my new PC has come pre-loaded with XP Pro and all sorts of stuff that I don't want I would like to re-install XP Pro from scratch and have a clean start.Do I just insert the XP CD and select the new installation option rather than the upgrade option? Should I re-format the hard disk first to get rid of everything or will the new installation option do all this for me?As XP was only activated about a week ago will re-activation so soon cause alarm bells to be set off at Microsoft? Presumably, as I'm not installing a new hard disk it shouldn't make any difference even if the advice will be to re-format the disk first? Thanks for any help.David
November 11, 200322 yr Well all you do is put the CD in, restart your computer and let the machine boot of the CD, then follow the setup, you want to do a full format and make sure the file system is NTFS, no don't worry about reactivating the product, they will see it is the same CD key and won't be worried, I would highly recommened backing up all important info on CD-R's or RW's before you reinstall XP.
