CPU Update

Featured Replies

Hi,I hope this is posted to the correct forumI have just updated my cpu from am AMD 1.4 athlon to a 2600+XP(Barton). Everything seems to be working fine after I updated Epox 8RGA+ bios to recognise new processor but I see no increase in frame rates in fs2004. Does anyone know if I need to reinstall fs2004 or is there something else I'm missing. I am new to forums but not new to pc systems or flightsim and here's my setupEPOX 8RGA+ latest biosBuilt in GF4 graphics40GB IBM hard DriveUSB CD WriterIDE DVD burnerPS I realise the graphics setup is not helping me but I thought I should see some increase in frames after the cpu upgrade especially that i am now at 166fsbAny help is much appreciated and if any more info is required just ask.

Your built in GPU graphics plays as much a role in the speed of FS as your CPU. If you coupled that new barton processor with a DX 9 compatible video card, you will see improved performance.Mike

Cool, The cpu (whatever the speed) is still faster than the onboard vidcard and is basically just waiting around for the vidcard to do something. To see a difference in f.p.s., make it the other way 'round, (display adaptor wait on the cpu -i.e. buy an add-on VGA card).

Thanks for the quick response, even if it is not exactly what I want to hear ! I am working on a budget now after the cpu and dvd burner update etc. I will be upgrading the graphics card but not just yet. I just thought I would some slight change in fs9 performance with the cpu change first.Anyone have any more ideas ?On ground at Dublin now I get 13 14 fps with 40% traffic from Ultimate Traffic and most sliders about half way. I was hoping just to get 3 to 4 fore frames for the moment until I get new fx card or whatever. My original question was would an fs9 reload help at all in this goal ? Anyone tried a reload of fs after cpu upgrade or anyone using gf4 integrated graphics with any ideas. I did try overclocking graphics before but with no noticable effect. I know I could decrease resolution to 800*600 but I have gotten used to it the way it is now(cant remember the numbers but next one up) particularly since I recently installed 19" monitor. Thanks again for the previous reply. As I said I am new to forums and was happy to get any help or ideas

Anytime. I am not sure if the onboard graphics has FSAA and Anio settings under control panel, but you might want to check those as well. Click Start, Control Panel, Display, Settings, Advanced tab. Also, check to see if there is an updated driver for them on EPOX's (I believe) web site. Last but not least, you can try lowering your resolution settings a bit for flying in FS9. Good luck...btw I always wanted to go to Dublin! Got the leprechaun tattoo on my arm and everything! :DMikeP4 2.4C @3.44 285FSBAsus P4C800 Deluxe1gb Corsair XMS PC3500 Asus V9950 FX5900 Ultra 256mb 500/950SB Audigy2 Platinum ExWatercooled baby!!!Pics: http://community.webshots.com/user/chksix2002Areyounervousyet.jpg

By the way, if you do find the FSAA and Anio settings, try lowering them a notch if they're on. A VGA Add-On Video card is a good idea.MikeP4 2.4C @3.44 285FSBAsus P4C800 Deluxe1gb Corsair XMS PC3500 Asus V9950 FX5900 Ultra 256mb 500/950SB Audigy2 Platinum ExWatercooled baby!!!Pics: http://community.webshots.com/user/chksix2002Areyounervousyet.jpg

Thanks MikeI have card FSAA at 'Application' and fs9 FSAA off. If I turn on any FSAA I get good visuals but the frames go to hell! so I've gotten used to it off. I updated graphics drivers to 44.03 a few months ago and saw a slight improvement in frame rates. I think there are newer drivers now but does anyone know if they are much better ? I generally dont update drivers unless there is good reason.I used to live in Dublin so I got familiar with the airport, as I would go there Planespotting and use it mostly for testing in fs9 as I am familiar with it. I find it is a good test bed as busier airports like Heathrow or JFK just ruin my day, framewise and very quiet places just dont push the system enough. Thanks again for the suggestions and as always I am happy to hear more from anyone and try it out in my quest for that elusive 2 or 3 extra frames.
